The Great East Japan Earthquake struck off the northeast coast of Japan at 2:46 p.m. on March 11, 2011. The earthquake also triggered huge tsunamis that left close to 20,000 people dead or missing, caused immense destruction along Japan’s Pacific coast and created over 300,000 refugees. Demand for new equipment and projects remained similar to that seen in the previous quarter and below that in the first quarter of 2012.
